El Rancho High School is a public high school located in Pico Rivera, California. It is a part of the El Rancho Unified School District. It was founded in September 1952 where most of its students were from Whittier High School. The Whittier Union District then administered the new school until 1962 when the EL Rancho Unified School District was developed. The school was placed within the unincorporated community of Rivera before the municipal incorporation of Pico Rivera. The school’s theme colors are Blue and Gray which represents the Union and Confederate soldiers of the American Civil War.

They last made it to CIF Championship game in 1988 losing to Los Altos high school 12-0. Their crosstown football rivals are the Montebello Oilers, Pioneer Titans, Whittier Cardinals, and Santa Fe Chiefs.

If their football team’s success wasn’t enough to make them one of the most dominant school when it comes to sports, their soccer team also is known for being great. It has won league ten times already. They were the CIF champions in 2003 and CIF semi-finalists in 2008. Their newest result in the CIF playoffs was the 3-1 win over Crescenta Valley in the quarterfinals after beating Hawthorne 1-0. Their 2010-2011 varsity team has recently won the CIF Division IV Southern Section Championship winning 4-2 against Oak Hills.

Finally, aside from having one of the best track records in the football and soccer field, their running dynasty has won 8 Del Rio League titles in the last ten years, making it the most successful team in the recent years. Yes, you read that right, the team won that may title from the prestigious competition. The team 2005 was also ranked 18th in the nation and finished 5th at the California State Championships. Because of this, El Rancho has become one of the most sought-after and popular school when it comes to sports.
